Kitchenaid KUDS30IXSS Superba Series Dishwasher

After 11 years of service, our KitchenAid dishwasher finally gave up the ghost As is common for this equipment, it was the electronics that failed her. Having been quite happy with the old girl, we did our internet research, talked to some friends with other brands and then purchased the KitchenAid Superba Series Full Console Dishwasher in Stainless Steel. We selected it, because we liked the built in grinder (garbage disposal... no emptying food traps) which we also had on our old machine and the heated drying (which is now often not available on other models as it reduces the overall energy rating.)

The new machine seems to be a bit roomier than the last, and its design has had a few small improvements. It cleans dishes excellently, as did our old model. It's about as noisy as the machine we had previously, but that doesn't bother us much even with our great room and kitchen closeby. You really don't hear it much when watching the TV, except when it drains. The new buttons on the front however, are highly sensitive you can active them with the slightest brush of clothing while reaching into the cabinets above. We have learned to avoid this, but you can active the button (child) lock feature to prevent it as well. Even though it has heated drying, the heating element appears smaller and it doesn't seem to heat to as high a temperature as did the old one. As such, there is usually some water left on plastic items and even on the inside of the door when the drying is finished, but most of the dishes are dry. The new model takes nearly twice as long to wash a load, and this is explained in the booklet as necessary for ultimate water and engery savings. We usually run it after dinner and unload it in the morning, so that isn't a problem for us and there is a 'quick wash' function you can engage if you want faster (less efficient) service.

We're hopeful this unit lasts us another 10 years. If it does, we'll be satisfied.
